私がモンテビデオに魅せられたのは、さまざまな偶然が重なったからであるが、コンピューターの時代に、地球の反対側の地点に居る人々と、どのように友交を深めることができるかを、試したかったからである。
しかし、モンテビデオを度々訪れるようになったある日、「ここが、ロートレアモン［Lautréamont］が住んでいた場所だった」と教えられて、愕然とした［astonished］。何故なら、私は若い頃から今日まで、「手術台の上のミシンとこうもり傘［a sewing machine and an umbrella on an operating table］」の図式を提起したシュールレアリスムの詩人ロートレアモンを尊敬し、憧れてきたからである。その時、ロートレアモンが、もうひとつの（L’autre）モンテビデオ（mont [evideo]）であることを突然思い出した。私は、意識下で、コンピューターが現れるずっと以前から、モンテビデオに憧れていたのである。

However, during my frequent visits to Montevideo one day I was astonished to be told, “This is the place in which Lautréamont lived.” That is because, from my youth until today, I have respected and admired the surrealist poet Lautréamont, who conceived the schema of “a sewing machine and an umbrella on an operating table.” At that moment, I suddenly recalled that Lautréamont was another (l’autre) Montevideo (mont [evideo]).

«El motivo de mi fascinación por Montevideo fue la superposición de varias serendipias, pero en la era informática quiero intentar profundizar la amistad entre personas de extremos opuestos del mundo.
Sin embargo, un día, durante mis frecuentes visitas a Montevideo, me asombró oír: «Este es el lugar donde vivió Lautréamont». Esto se debe a que, desde mi juventud hasta hoy, he respetado y admirado al poeta surrealista Lautréamont, quien concibió el esquema de «una máquina de coser y un paraguas sobre una mesa de operaciones».
